General Motors announced pricing information for the 2012 model year Chevrolet Volt, which is now available for order in all 50 states, this morning. The 2011 Volt was offered in just seven states and the District of Columbia. GM has dropped the base price for its extended range electric vehicle by a little over $1,000 to $39,995, which includes an $850 destination freight charge but excludes tax, title and license fees. Volkswagen Golf GTI Cabriolet Concept has revealed at the 2011 Wörthersee. It is the first officially built open-top version of the icon. Visually, the fire red “Firespark Metallic” open-top GTI shows independent ways: especially noteworthy here are the add-on parts designed in shiny black piano paint. The concept’s styling focuses on extreme precision with lines that appear as if cut by a razor.

It was fun to own a truck for a while, but fuel prices and a global recession eventually caught up to the recreational truck owner. Sales of the Ford F-Series came in at 413,000 units in 2009, while 2010 improved to 528,000. Combined that adds up to roughly the same amount of trucks Ford sold in ’05 alone. Does the precipitous drop in truck sales mean that high-dollar pickups of the past are on the outs? Not even close. Mercedes-Benz is producing the last edition of the short wheelbase Station Wagon in the successful G-Class with the special “BA3 Final Edition” model. Two variants will be available: in the G350 BlueTEC a 6-cylinder diesel engine with the very latest BlueTEC emissions control, 155 kW (211 hp) and 540 newton metres for great pulling power both on and off the road. In the G500 a powerful 5.5-litre V8 petrol engine with 285 kW (388 hp) and 530 newton metres effortlessly performs the same function.
Mazda launched of its facelifted 2012 Mazda3 that made its U.S. debut at the New York International Auto Show. The updated Mazda3 debuts the first application in North America of the Japanese firm’s suite of SKYACTIV fuel-saving and performance-oriented technologies, achieving 40 mpg on the highway.
