Ford was planning to launch the longer and more spacious 7-seat Grand C-MAX in the United States. it turns out there’s been a slight change of plans as the Detroit automaker just announced it won’t be bringing the petrol-powered Grand C-MAX to the U.S. after all. But not all is lost for fans of the Focus-based minivan as Ford will focus on the five-seat C-MAX in both hybrid and plug-in hybrid formats. The C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid vehicles were previewed at the Detroit Auto Show this past January.

Renault is raising the stakes with the presentation of a hotter version of its Renault Sport Mégane boasting more power under its hood. The Mégane RS Trophy is a special edition version of the standard model with a limited production run of 500 cars. Renault is quick to note that the Trophy is not a successor to the hardcore R26R, which leaves the door open to a more extreme variant in the near future.

The new Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback will arrive in Chevrolet’s UK dealerships next month with on-the-road prices starting from £13,995 (US$23,000), the automaker announced today. Customers can choose from three engines including two petrol units, a 124HP 1.6-liter and a 141HP 1.8-liter, and a 2.0-liter turbo diesel delivering 163-horsepower. All engines can be coupled to either a manual gearbox or an automatic transmission.

Volkswagen Golf GTI Cabriolet Concept has revealed at the 2011 Wörthersee. It is the first officially built open-top version of the icon. Visually, the fire red “Firespark Metallic” open-top GTI shows independent ways: especially noteworthy here are the add-on parts designed in shiny black piano paint. The concept’s styling focuses on extreme precision with lines that appear as if cut by a razor.
